I love cheesy intro hooks; they remind me of shiny-suited salesmen who think ‘the little lady’ doesn’t get numbers or legalsleaze. To be fair though, sales women are equally guilty of trying to hoodwink you into a sale.

A few years back, I got myself a new friend for a whole 3 hours in the holiday resort where I was staying. She was great! She delighted in my future holiday goals, understood my contractual concerns, and quickly recognised that I got numbers, especially the ones linked to my savings account.

Instead of slugging me with sums, my new bestie gifted me a self-care package that contained vouchers for cocktails, a couple for the Spa and a tasty little box of dark chocolate; she really ‘got’ me. What she didn’t get, however, was my credit card. I had barely finished saying, “Thank you, but no thank you, this isn’t the right time”, when she turned on her 2-inch heel and walked off. No goodbye, no nothing, friendship over. I felt for her; I really did; she put in a lot of effort. I honoured her efforts by having a facial and knocking back a cocktail. You should never waste Spa vouchers no matter how you come by them!

The point of my little story is that even timeshare sales teams understand the value of self-care, and so should we. We should be gifting ourselves a little ‘me’ time every day, not just when we go on holiday or are gifted spa vouchers for birthdays.

Easier said than done, I know.

When did it become so hard to find the time to do the things you love or know will make you feel fabulous?

During my 20s and 30s, I would treat myself to a facial every month and think nothing of spending a whole day in bed reading. I think I am averaging 3 facials a year, and didn’t have time to read my book on my last holiday. However, there is one self-care-related thing that hasn’t changed in 20 years: my commitment to Tapping.

What I’m about to share with you probably won’t be a game-changer, the holy grail of self healing, or even the next TikTok viral trend. However, I think you might want to try it because it’s quick, easy and works, even if you don’t believe it does. So what is it?

It’s my Tapping + Affirmations + Magic Dust = Brain & Body Supercharge!

Wait, what, Tapping as in what Prince Harry does?!

Kind of, but not – Prince Harry is an advocate of the Tapping technique EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), fending off paparazzi and having The Firm eye roll at everything he does. Whereas, Magic Dust Tapping evolved from my practice of TFT (Thought Field Therapy), a Tapping method I trained in waaaay back in 2004, that I have stripped back and jazzed up with some add-ons that I picked up during later experiments.

What, wait, there’s more than one Tapping method?!

There is! But I will not be covering them today. For this article on Magic Dust Tapping, all you need to know is that you have Tapping options (see links below) and that there isn’t a “Best” technique or celebrity advocate for you to champion. Transform Your Wellbeing: What Tapping Can Do

So, what exactly is Tapping, and how does it benefit you?

Simply put, Tapping is a technique where you tap on specific acupressure points on your body. Stimulating these points can help release any stuck energy that might be causing you emotional, mental, or even physical pain. It sounds fanciful, but there is plenty of scientifically backed evidence to prove that Tapping improves your wellbeing.

Research has shown that using EFT, for example can help:

  1. Reduce cortisol levels, making Tapping useful for stress reduction
  2. Relieve anxiety
  3. Tapping can significantly reduce the symptoms of PTSD
  4. Help manage phobias and
  5. Improve self esteem

That’s impressive, right?

Another impressive thing about Tapping is that it’s skeptic-friendly. During my training, the most significant shifts I witnessed were had by the loudest cynics in the room.

I had the honour of partnering with a few men who were adamant that Tapping would do nothing for them. Tapping was a last resort after trying other self help techniques. The physical shifts I saw during their Tapping were amazing. In some, it looked like 10 years had been wiped from their faces, and even though they couldn’t always feel or verbalise the results of their Tapping, they came back the next day. I even saw a few a year later at the next seminar. After 20 years, I am still stunned that just tapping the Karate Chop (edge of hand) point can set me straight again.

Learning a Tapping technique is, in my mind, the greatest gift you can give yourself (and your family).

The Gratitude Connection: Apps, Words & Energy

As I mentioned earlier, Magic Dust Tapping isn’t a groundbreaker, it’s simply a veeery pared back version of TFT with add-on’s. Formulated to corral my lazy bones back into a daily Tapping habit by engaging my inner 5 year old. This Tapping technique is fun to do and takes less than 5 minutes!

The hardest part about my Tapping method is trusting the Magic and finding an affirmation to tap on.

Wait, what, affirmations?!

Yes, I have finally found a quick way to harness the power of words that works for me. Weirdly, long after, I started playing with Magic Dust.

I know it sounds like I arrived late to the Affirmations party, but not because I didn’t understand the impact of positive words; it’s just that I could not

find a way of using them without feeling like a messed up greeting card. That is until I decided (on a whim) to download the Gratitude App.

This turned out to be the spark I needed – this pocket sized positivity App is fantastic; it has a nice fresh feel and cute graphics and will send you a daily nugget of wisdom – if you let it.

What exactly prompted me to add the Gratitude affirmations to my Tapping routine, I don’t remember, but I do know that during the first two weeks of trialling the App I spent forever searching for ones that I believed I needed to Tap on. Thankfully, the lazy in me soon got bored of that. Instead of wasting time finding the perfect affirmation to tap on, I used the one provided in the Daily Zen section of the App.

After about a month of Tapping on random affirmations and tracking my experience (no joke, I used a spreadsheet to record my progress) I realised that not only was I looking forward to reading my Daily drop, but also how incredibly on point they were, like, Oracle card reading on point. Most mornings, the random affirmation I received was perfect for my mood or for whatever was happening in my life.

Talk about game changing!

From Skeptic to Believer: The Evidence

For the doubters and the fact-driven among us, here are 5 scientifically proven benefits of using affirmations daily –

  1. Reduces cortisol levels and in turn, stress levels (just like Tapping does)
  2. It can help increase your physical activity levels and improve overall health
  3. Improve immune response
  4. Reduce chronic pain
  5. Enhance self esteem and confidence

As you can see, using Affirmations daily is a valuable self help tool in its own right, but combined with Tapping, it acts like a super booster. Together they can positively energise your day!

Having covered the why’s, let’s give Magic Dust Tapping a go!

Your Tapping Toolkit: What You Really Need

You have probably noticed that I have included images in this article that outline the steps of MDTapping. Handy for sure, but there is a glaring omission – what to tap with on all those lovely energy points.

You will be happy to know that you don’t need anything fancy – just your fingers. Using your index and middle fingers specifically (think finger guns), you will gently tap on each point listed below (a PDF of the full method is available to download). If you can physically tap your face and body using both hands, give it a whirl, if you can’t, then know that tapping with one hand or even visualising tapping is just as beneficial.

For the Heart, Forehead and Crown Tapping Points, feel free to use 3 or 4 fingers to tap if that is more comfortable, I do.

Supercharging Your Practice with Affirmations

In TFT (Thought Field Therapy), you are usually instructed to tap each point a minimum of 5 times – I recommend the same if you are

a) not going to Tap using affirmations or,

b) plan to use affirmations that are 3 words or less in length.

For affirmations longer than 3 words, keep tapping the energy point until you have recited the whole affirmation – on the next point, repeat & rinse.

An example of a short affirmation would be –

”I belong” or “I love life”

Longer affirmations that don’t required keeping track of your taps per point would be –

“I am open to new ideas” or “I am a priority in my own life”, they should easily cover the minimum taps recommended.

At the end of the day though, the MDTapping sequence is just a guideline based on how I tap; do not worry if you skip a point, tap on areas not in the steps, or find yourself tapping in a different order. Whatever point you are tapping and in what order is exactly what you need in that moment.

Mapping Your Tapping Points

If you are completely new to Tapping, let me clarify the location of a few of the Tapping points;

1. To find the the Collarbone point (K27 – Step 7), trace your finger underneath your collarbone towards your sternum. Before you hit your sternum you will find a small dip where the collarbone meets the first rib – tap there.

2. To find the Under Arm (ua – Step 6) Tapping Point simply tap the area that connects your upper chest to your armpit. So, the are just before your hand dips into you armpit. For most people this can be a little tender, so if you tap and it’s sore you are on the money!

3. Where I have written inside next to Tapping Points located on fingers (Steps 10,11 & 12), I am referring to the side of the finger facing towards your thumb.

4. And, the Tapping Point on the front of your hand is between your ring and little finger (Step 9).

Making Magic: Your Step-by-Step Guide to MDTapping

Starting at the top (the face), let’s find those Tapping points, recite and tap!

  1. Inner eyebrows (e)
  2. Temples (oe)
  3. Under eye (ue)
  4. Under nose (un)
  5. Chin (ch)
  6. Under arm (ua)
  7. Collar bone (K27 arms crossed, or not) (cb)

For this portion of the Magic Dust tapping sequence, you only need to tap on one hand to complete the circuit.

  1. Side of hand (sh)
  2. Front of hand (fh)
  3. Inside little finger (lf)
  4. Inside of middle finger (mf)
  5. Inside of Index finger (if)
  6. Heart (sternum) (h)
  7. Forehead (middle/3rd eye) (fh)
  8. Top of the head (Crown) (c)
  9. Collar bone K27 (again)

To finish…

  1. Hands folded over your Heart (h) – take a big breath in & out, let everything settle
  2. Rub hands together to generate some beautiful Magic Dust and throw the dust above your head and enjoy the tingly sensation of it falling over you – just go with it!!
  3. This is entirely optional, but gently pat your hands over your face – and you’re done!

Magic Dust Tapping: Where Science Meets Sparkle

Oh, you thought ‘Magic Dust’ was just the name I chose for my tapping sequence, not an actual component of it. Remember when I mentioned my inner 5-year-old? That’s all for her because, like my inner critic Janice, she also needs to be involved in everything I do. Unlike Janice, who loves to make me feel awkward and weird, my inner child just wants to make sure that I am having fun, even when I am adulting.

Not really relevant, but I am in a sharing mood, the idea of using Magic Dust presented itself during a meditation on Emily Dexter’s online course Simply Sacred Channeling and I have been throwing sparkly stuff at the end of all of my meditations, Oracle card readings and of course tapping ever since. If you haven’t come across Emily Dexter yet, I highly recommend that you do. She’s hilarious and knows her stuff.

There you have it – my morning Tapping + Affirmations + Magic Dust routine. Fun, right?

No? It will be eventually, just stick with it. If you’re a sceptic, track your progress. For a month, jot down the affirmation you used that morning, along with how you felt before and after tapping. I guarantee that once the routine becomes second nature and your self consciousness wears off, you will clearly see and feel the benefits of this quick combo.
